The International Media Institute of India is a collaborative effort by two non-profit Organizations: the Society of Policy Studies in Delhi, and the International Center for Journalists in Washington, DC. The goal of the Institute is to provide the next generation of Indian journalists with the skills needed to succeed in the converging media world.
It is the first Media Institute in India that will train graduates in Print, Multimedia and New Media simultaneously. They will learn the reporting, writing, audio and video skills necessary to produce news for print, audio, video and new media platforms.
IMII students will learn in a new and challenging environment. Instead of sitting passively in classrooms and taking notes, they will be treated as professional journalists working for a variety of media platforms in the IMII newsroom.
Editors will assign those stories and send them out into the community to gather information. They will be required to meet tough deadlines to produce lab newspapers, pod casts, Twitter feeds, web pages and mobile phone updates.
They will maintain personal blogs as part of the curriculum and be expected to master evolving forms of social networking as additional newsgathering tools.
Students will complete their assignments on Internet-enabled laptops that will be provided free of cost by IMII. At the end of the six-month course, they will receive a Post Graduate Certificate in Journalism and will be fully qualified to work as reporters or copy editors in traditional or new media platform.
